In the spirit of me just having paid off my car (SLAYYY!!! 💅), I wanted to talk about why celebrating our financial wins is so important. Taking the time to recognize our victories and uplift ourselves in these moments is what will help inspire us to keep achieving.
Making strides to change your financial situation is not an easy feat, no matter what your goals are. It takes hard work, determination, discipline, and sacrifice, but the feeling of reaching your goals is so rewarding. So if reaching our financial goals are so rewarding in and of themselves, why should we celebrate?
The Importance of Celebrating Your Victories
When we celebrate something, it’s like positive reinforcement around that thing. Taking the time to recognize our accomplishments gives us a boost of self-confidence and pushes us forward to the next goal and the next success (Psychology Today).
Focus in on how you feel after you reach your goal. Are you proud, excited, motivated? Hold onto those feelings and remember them when you’re not feeling as proud, excited, or motivated. Use those feelings to fuel yourself in between fully funding your emergency fund and paying off your student loans, or whatever your goals may be.
Reaching your financial goals tends to take a while and there may be large gaps in between each goal where you may feel like giving up or leaning into behaviors that don’t align with your goals. Don’t feel discouraged! Remind yourself you’re exactly where you need to be and you’re on the path to fulfilling your goals.
How to Celebrate Your Financial Wins
So if celebrating your financial wins is so important, how should you do it? Well, what you shouldn’t do is go overboard. You don’t need to take yourself on a week-long vacation to the Bahamas for paying off your credit card debt, that’s just counter-intuitive.
Celebrate in small, meaningful ways that don’t detract from your goals. Go out with friends, get your nails done, take a day off work, get a massage, buy something off your wishlist. Don’t forget about your budget when celebrating; make sure you can actually afford to spend the money if you choose to.
You can also celebrate for free by sharing your financial wins with the people closest to you. The support and love that comes from them can’t be bought. Whether that’s calling your mom, celebrating with your spouse, or posting on your story to share with your friends, let the people you care about join in on your happiness and share in your joy. After all, they should only want the best for you!
What Financial Wins Can I Celebrate?
No matter what your financial goal is, big or small, it’s worth celebrating. Don’t feel like you have nothing to celebrate just because you “only” paid off a $300 credit card balance. All wins are worth recognition. Paying off debt, saving up for a big purchase, creating a budget, investing, being able to provide financially for loved ones, and having financial independence (to name a few), are all causes for celebration.

What financial goals have you accomplished lately? How did you celebrate? My gift to myself for paying off my car was splurging on some new hair products! 💁♀️ Keep it simple!
